A Virtual Thirst vending machine…

Coca cola, making its steps in SecondLife by announcing Virtual Thirst Contest. It was a wonderful experience of submitting our ideas to Virtual Thirst. We have submitted few, as

CokePool – Splash and Dash on fizz (a pool which offers the essence of Coca-Cola )

Concept

An interactive billboard that magically transforms itself into a water slide. The idea is to transform benign everyday object like a billboard into a vending machine that offers fun, refreshment and unity (serendipity).

Implementation

In the default state, the build will look like a billboard in the form of bottle cap. The billboard will have points of interaction reflecting the product offerings viz., CocaCola, Sprite, Cherry Coke, etc. When the billboard is activated, the bottle cap starts rotating first in the horizontal axis. Then it slowly starts rotating in the vertical axis. A giant bottle of the chosen product appears and starts filling up the cap to transform it into a water slide like pool.

The CokePool will contain animated scripted objects (Pose balls) which will enable different styles of swimming.

The CokePool will also contain water body related objects like dolls of duck and particle effect (fizz bubbles).

An important flotilla in the pool will be a teleport object. Upon selection of this object, the avatar will be given an option to be teleported to a ‘random’ location with a similar billboard/slide. [Maintaining the list of billboard locations, working out the randomness algorithm is the challenge left to the developer to figure out :) ]

The default and active state of the billboard/interactive slide is illustrated in the image below.

CokePool

Relevance

This build is targeted as a giveaway for outdoor oriented builders. The builders will be interested in using the build as it can generate valuable traffic to their location. The users will be interested in the interaction, as it enables serendipity.

CokeMeGo – High on a Ride (a Merry-Go-Round)

Concept

The vending machine is in the form of a simple coke bottle. Upon interaction, the bottle shaped vending machine becomes a Merry-Go-Round. A variety of ride experience is possible based on avatar’s product selection choice.

Implementation

User camera manipulation using a Vehicle Script is the core component of the implementation. The path traced by the vehicle and speed of rotation offers the controlling parameters for generating different experiences. The outline of the build is illustrated by the image attached.

CokeMeGo

The image illustrates the default and active states of the coke bottle shaped vending machine. In the default state, the vending machine is simple coke bottle. When an avatar touches the bottle, an option tab appears listing the products viz., Coke, Sprite, etc. When the interaction is complete, the bottle spans out Merry-Go-Round arms (marked a, b, c in the image) that are vehicles that the avatar can ride. Product choice by the avatar will determine the theme of the ride.

The particle effect (marked d in image) will set the tone of the theme ( bubbles: Coke, Hearts: Sprite, Bats: Cherry Coke)

Relevance

This vending machine will be useful for land owners that have a large stretch of land. An avatar can quickly browse the landscape without much flying effort.

Maurice Levy at Davos07…

From UPSL, upsl Pink(Me-Maha) made an another attendance in Reuters Auditorium at Second Life, where Reuters features the live interviews of some attendees at Davos07. The meet was interesting by the queries of Adam Reuters with Maurice Levy, a well renowned Publicis Groupe’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. And, it was impressive with some of corporate queries, one is relating to Google as a digital advertising medium by one of the second life avatar Labsji Link.Levy at Davos07

The whole auditorium was very live by the discussions between SL avatars (nearly 20 avatars) relating advertising.

As a renowned profession in advertising, Maurice’s main focus is the advantages of carbon neutral medium and he putforth his ideas and eagerness to make carbon neutral medium of advertising by 2010…

The whole show was nicely featured by Reuters.

I was also involved in valid talks with couple of SL inmates ( Avretica Edelman and Jillian Barth) and i was happy with that…

Peter Gabriel@WEF Davos 07: I’m here as a hustler!

World Economic Forum, annual event at Davos, Switzerland is also covered live in Second Life – the 3d virtual world of avatars and user generated ‘builds’. Adam Reuters as a second life inmate( Reuters has a big Island with a full time bureau Chief!) featured live interviews in Second life of select WEF attendees. The Reuters Auditorium brought alive the snow caped Davos…

The attendance was very impresive( some 30 avatars in interesting shapes and sizes participated). From UPSL, we( Me- Maha, Balaji, Vasu) huddled in front of the monitor as upsl Pink . We attended an interview by Peter Gabriel, – renowned musician, activist and a internet technology early adapter.Peter Gabriel in Davos 07 He put forth some of his intense thought about human rights violations. And how a simple camera can make a huge difference to the plight. ‘Just make the camera available, make it easy/seamless to upload/share’. He shared his encounter with an African women and her strong faith on how a camera could make a world of difference.

The discussion mentioned the one hundred dollar laptop and Peter rightly pointed to the trend that mobile phone is doing what it does more or less.

Actually, it was very stunning to get such a positive opinion about Camera Mobile phones! Amazing to note that the simple camera phone could turn the at Davos 07‘Big Brother Watching’ upside down to ‘Small Brother Watching( Empowered!)’.

Bonus Link:

MooMoney was one of the active participant in the event with an impressive avatar!

WEF coverage at SL just validates our bet on SL as a conference medium.

Good show Reuters!
